Hi Patrick,
V2361 LMC : is from Vol 5 of GCVS4 which lists extragalactic variables.
This same situation also refers to V1341 LMC and V850 LMC, listed in RA
order.
V4338 Sgr : refer to discussion in vsnet-chat 2264. There seems to have
been similar confusion re the nature V2264 Oph at the time of discovery and
which was referred to as both a nova and a dwarf nova.
V999 Sgr : I too was surprised about this one. This outburst (if real)
was reported in Circular M90/5 (1990 May) of the VSS RASNZ, at magnitude 14
and of 5 day duration. Perhaps if Danny O is reading in vsnet-chat he may
like to comment. Tks.
HV Vir : I had a VSM chart from Mati but no covering note, so included it
for completeness just in case based on the GCVS classification.
Yes, there is some discussion on when this decade (and millenium) actually
ends. Perhaps my poor choice of words (decade) which should have read 'to
end of 1999'.
Reinder Bouma's vsnet-chat 2265 also mentions V1974 Cyg which was not
included in my southern bias listing. At +52 declination that was almost a
jindalee object for us folk from down under. Thanks, Reinder.
Regards,
Peter Williams

Is 'V2361' a variable star number in the LMC?
> V4338 Sgr 1990 -175229 W Liller 90 Feb 23
Probably a dwarf nova
> V999 Sgr 1990 -175327 D Overbeek 90 Apr 30 (recurrent nova)
I don't remember any 1990 eruption/outburst of V999 Sgr, and I think the
only
eruption took place in 1910.
> HV Vir 1992 -131502 IAUC? 92 May?
HV Vir = NSV 6201 = Nova Vir 1929. The first ever visually observed
outburst
(and the second known outburst at that time) of this SU UMa-type dwarf nova
was detected by me on 1992 Apr. 20.928 UT (cf. IAUC 5502).
Up to now there has been recorded only one (certain) recurrent nova
eruption
during this decade (in our galaxy) - and I wouldn't mind if this eruption
remained the only one :-)

He (and everyone else) has still 1 year and 4 months of this decade (and
this
millenium) remaining!

Patrick
