[vsnet-chat 2261] re Novae 1990 - 1999

In vsnet-chat 2233, Claud Boivin asked about novae discovered during the
1990s. Much of the following information has been extracted from Mati
Morel's Variable Star Memorandum. As the VSM are intended for use by
observers of the VSS RASNZ, there is some southern bias here and this list
is therefore not intended to be complete for all novae of the current
decade (especially as Bill Liller keeps adding to the list!). It is
intended as a starting place for Claud.

Listed is the variable star designation and year, the HD number appearing
on vs charts (negative indicates a southern declination), the discoverer
and the discovery date or date early observation. Where my quick look has
not come up with a official designation, I have simply used the word
'nova'. Hope this is of assistance and interest. Amateur astronomers are
well represented.

As mentioned above, this list is not pretending to be complete and its
accuracy and completeness subject to my limited search. There is also at
least one x-ray object I recall but not included (in Vel?) and no doubt
other similar objects plus those in M31 And. I also seem to have deleted
the message about the recent SMC nova and it is therefore not included.
Others may be able to build onto this list.

45 novae are shown (plus 1 mis identification in Sco 1990) and Bill Liller
still has 4 months of this decade remaining!

Regards

Peter Williams
