MISAO Project Announce Mail (August 16, 1999)

Hello. I am Seiichi Yoshida working on the MISAO project.

I investigated if the two bright new objects discovered in July were
within the field of the CCD images of the Ageo Survey Team (KenIchi
Kadota, Seiichi Yoshida). Then I found we have taken just besides of
them.

* V1493 Aql (Nova Aql 1999)

This is a nova discovered on July 13 as 8.8 mag at R.A. 19h 8m,
Decl. +12o32'.

The Ageo Survey Team ran the survey with 0.16-m f/3.3 reflector on
July 7 around the field. But because we took images along the
R.A. line at 19h, the nova was out of the images. Our field was just
one image size right to the nova before brightening.

* 1999 NW2 (M.P.E.C. 1999-N34)

This is one of the near earth asteroids, discovered on July 13 as 15.4
mag. The Ageo Survey Team ran the survey with 0.16-m f/3.3 reflector on
July 15 around the field without the discovery information. On that
day, this object was closest to the earth, only 0.016AU, and reached
to 14.6 mag. It was at R.A. 19h40m, Decl. +08o41'.

However because we took images along the R.A. line at 19h42m, from
Decl. +10 to +20 deg, this asteroid was out of the images. If we had
started the survey from one image size south, this asteroid must be in
the field as a fast moving object.

The latest version of the PIXY system, automatic image examination
software, is released. This new version supports the USNO-A2.0
catalog. Although many of the new variable stars discovered in the
MISAO Project are not recorded in the catalog, it contains most stars
until 20 mag or fainter. Therefore, it is very useful for new objects
survey.

In addition, the bug of the PIXY system on the magnitude estimation,
mentioned in the announce mail on Aug. 8, is also fixed.
