Arne's question is really the key one: > The question I have is, once an error has been found, > how do you publish the errata (presumably IBVS or equivalent), > and, more importantly, how do you make sure the errata > gets associated with the original catalog? Even with > IBVS, if you find only one or two errors, it seems hardly > worth publishing the results. It would > seem reasonable for someone like the ADC to be a > 'central repository' for the electronic version of the > catalog, and every so often generate an updated version. Central databanks like the CDS in Europe or ADC in USA (that exchange data between themselves quite efficiently) could really carry out the service proposed by Arne. I see with great pleasure the great effort that VSNET partecipants put in trying to fix mis-identifications, re-classification, pruning of catalogues, etc... I'm worried all these tremendously valuable informations could be lost again with time (one rarely goes through the archives of news-groups). Is VSNET maintining a separate listing (maybe browsable via http) of such spotted inconsistencies in the catalogues ? Such a list could be a useful resource to check with when dealing with observation planning or after-observation puzzling data. Ulisse Munari
