Hi,
I have good reasons to believe that the VSNET sequence for SN 1999cp
is about 0.3 magnitude too faint.
The VSNET sequence was derived by Dr Kato from the USNO-A1.0 database
using his established method which however can't adjust for any
zero-offset.
I used the USNO-A2.0 data which were calibrated against a nearby (2
degr approx.) GSPC field. The derived sequence differs from the VSNET
seq with 0.3-0.5 magnitude for the magn 13.5-15.3 range. Visual
inspection of the field seem to confirm it.
My recent estimates of SN 1999cp (14.3 and 14.2) would therefore
become 14.0 on 3/7 and 13.9 on 5/7.
I think Arne could resolve this....
In the mean time, for reasons of continuity, I'll stick to the VSNET
sequence.
Best regards,
Berto
