Brian Warner was the first to point out to me that one cannot in fact
obtain the complete GSC v1.2 from the Strasbourg data center, as I claimed
earlier. All they have there is a "sample" of a hundred lines only. A note
from Francois Ochsenbein in Strasbourg indicates that because of various
institutional political difficulties, the complete file will indeed _not_ be
available. For now, only the small-area search utility is available, but at
least VizieR is far more convenient to use than the one at STScI. As long as
the GSC v1.2 remains unavailable in bulk form, it is worth noting that Bill
Gray (Project Pluto) has a somewhat different version of a "fixed" GSC
available starting at:
