Regarding the cluster variables, the VSOLJ has had a relatively long history of visually observing "RV Tau" stars in globular clusters. There have been discussions in vsnet-chat on these variables, and some information on separate WWW pages: http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/Miras/m2var.html http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/Miras/m5var.html As they clearly show, "RV Tau" stars and long-period W Vir stars in globular clusters are well within reach of small telescopes (I mostly made visual observations using a 10-cm reflector). There was at least one Mira star reaching mag 12 (once reported as a possible nova), nova T Sco, reaching mag 6-7 (I've heard some people have been monitoring this cluster to check the nova recurrence). A recent paper in Acta Astronomica states that there is no "true" RV Tau stars in globulars. Could any specialist suggest on this? Regards, Taichi Kato
