[vsnet-chat 1868] V699 Oph, again

After observing the GRB990506 field last Thursday, I obtained
another photometric dataset on the V699 Oph field. Since my
April run, the variable has gone into quiescence, so
this was an ideal time to see what was underneath the
variable.
  The 990507 photometry yields:
     RA (J2000) DEC V B-V V-R R-I
  16:25:14.80 -04:40:25.6 16.502 1.194 0.750 0.632
and the photometry on 990421 yielded:
  16:25:14.75 -04:40:25.8 14.972 0.322 99.999 99.999

So the blue component is about 0.7arcsec to the west of
the red component, in agreement with my psf-fitting
result. The red component agrees in brightness and
color with the Nikolaus Vogt PEP measure of V=16.5, B-V 1.2.
Interesting close double! My U-band frame of the field
was not deep enough to pick up the quiescent state of
V699 Oph; I'll try to get a *really* deep U-band frame
during this next observing run, if I get a good-seeing
night. Otherwise, we need something like WIYN to
resolve the components.
Note: Bruce Sumner was the person who originally
suggested that this variable might be a close double.
I don't wish to take credit where it is not due!
Arne
