I have just learned some more indication of the extremely rapid rise
in the hostorical outburst of U Sco can be found in the Harvard plate
record of the 1936 outburst. The object was caught before the maximum
(at mag ~11) and rose by 2 mag in 2 hours. There is a description in
Burnham's Celestial Handbook.
