[vsnet-chat 1493] Re: Stop sending these to me

Colleagues,

This was recently posted to the observations list, but deserves repeating
here for listing in what we call the "Hall of Shame" -- a list you don't
wish to get on.

<< Maybe I didnt make myself clear when I said "STOP SENDING THESE
E-MAILS TO ME!!!" So, if you dont stop sending these to me I'm gonna
get pissed and when I get pissed I'll usually e-mail bomb people which
in this case mean you!!! So, the smart thing to do would be REMOVE ME
FROM THIS LIST!!!!!!!!! >>

Am I missing something, or isn't the instruction by our VSNET
administrators fairly straightforward in this manner? To subscribe to
the lists, you SUBSCRIBE. When you wish to removed, you UNSUBSCRIBE.
From the web site, the instructions are:
UNSUB <the chosen vsnet address> <your e-mail address>
I have seen many mail lists that use roughly this same procedure.
Furthermore, there is a special VSNET administrators email address,
vsnet-adm@kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp

Of course, the listed message was posted to the entire observations
list, which allowed all of us to share in the rudeness of the message.
It makes me wonder if any of the private messages received by the
admininstrators are equally inappropriate in their civility.

With the recent split in the VSNET lists, I got to UNSUB to a couple
of lists (because they're not particular interest) and the VSNET
administrators were extremely prompt! I hope that the VSNET staff
realizes that most of the recipients around the world appreciate their
efforts.

Clear skies,

Gene Hanson
