When the seeing is worse than 2" or varies rapidly, my errors for visual
estimates
of faint variables usually double (+/- 0.2 instead of +/- 0.1 mag). For
brighter variables,
I usually defocus the stars anyway, so poor seeing doesn't affect these
estimates.
