It's Henize's N119 nebula in the LMC. On long-exposure pictures the
"spiral" becomes an "8" centered on the star cluster SL360 (which hosts
S Dor). It also shows up on unfiltered CCD images.
The origin of the nebula's shape is uncertain. Theories I've heard of
mention simultaneous supernovae, or intense stellar winds, or bipolar
outbursts.
