Dear Supernova fans, The KAIT team have discovered one more. According to IAUC 7016, they discovered supernova 1998eb in Sc (with a bright core) galaxy NGC 1961 at Sept. 17.5 UT. The reported location is R.A. = 5h42m12s.02, Decl. = +69o22'26".3 (2000.0), which is about 39" east and 17" south of the nucleus of the host galaxy. On the confirmation image taken at Sept 19.4, it was about 17.8 mag (unfiltered CCD). If it is a normal SN Ia, it would be 15 mag or little less at its maximum. Note that there are many foreground stars around SN position, so the observers should take care not to mis-identify the object. Sincerely Yours, Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan yamaoka@rc.kyushu-u.ac.jp
