     The CIE standard visual responses for bright- and dark-adapted vision
were re-established after the War (WWII), and seem to be very nicely
confirmed by still later laboratory work. See for instance these papers
in the Journal of the Optical Society of America:  JOSA 41,402; JOSA 45,502;
JOSA 45,507. These tests of people at a lab suggest the CIE curves are
not just close but dead on, with very little variation among different
observers. There were similar papers extending the sensitivity curve out
to 1 micron. Rather more recently, see also JOSA 73,1653 for an article
titled "Landscape as viewed in the 320nm ultraviolet". This describes
tests done on a person who had cataracts removed allowing daytime vision
at 3200A.  Includes photos.
