Dear Steve,
Not only keeping the original images, please think of examinating and
obtaining photometiric data from the images. As I introduce you in
[vsnet-chat 1290], or as some examination results mails (posted on
Sept. 5 and 6) show, I am working on the MISAO Project which
automatically measure photometiric data and examinates if some
remarkable objects exist or not. Unfortunately, I am not ready to
examinate so many images right now because the software is not so
perfect... But I would like to make it possible to examine so many
images full-automatically in some months. So please do not delete your
images right now. But the decision is yours.
We will also start our own survey after this autumn. In the survey, we
will have about 10-30 images per night and surveys will be held once
or twice per week. So total number of images will be about 120 per
month, which is about 100MB. Including some other additional files,
the total size will be as same as one CD-ROM per month. So we will
keep all images in CD-Rs forever, after compressing them by gzip or
so. However, out total size is much smaller than Jim's case...
We also have a plan to distribute the CD-Rs. How about distributing
your images of galaxies for references?
Best regards,
