Dear SN watchers,
Lick team has discovered another supernova which can be catched up by
small telescopes. According to IAUC 6991, SN 1998dk was discovered on
Aug. 19.4 UT on the Sc galaxy UGC 139, which offset is about 5" east
and 3" north from the nucleus of the galaxy. The new star is well
inside of the central bulge. The coordinate of the new star is: R.A.
= 0h14m32s.16, Decl. = -0o44'10".9 (2000.0).
As Dr. Kato noted on [vsnet-chat 1169], typical SNeIa on this distance
will reach 15.3 mag or so at their maximum. Reported magnitudes are:
Aug. 15.4 >18.5:
19.4 17.6:
20.4 17.0: (all are unfiltered CCD mag),
which indicate that this SN would be very early phase. Followup
photometries or magnitude estimates are encouraged. USNO-A1.0 based
chart is available at [vsnet-chart 73] (above link).
Sincerely Yours,
