At the AAVSO Spring meeting last week, a number of people asked me about
photometry software. I posted a list to VSNET a month or so ago, but
I have updated that list slightly and placed it on my personal web page:
http://vsnet.flagstafff.az.us/~ccdir/
click on "references and reviews" to find the list. There are also two
tutorials on that web site concerning photometry (click on "tutorials").
Note that almost all of these references will process images and extract
aperture or psf photometry from the images. The only complete packages
(that I know...please tell me if I'm wrong) that will continue the process
through transformation equations, extinction calculations, differential
photometry, etc. are IRAF (Unix) and CCDIR (DOS/Win95). The Henden/Kaitchuck
DOS-based "Software for Photometric Astronomy" available from Willmann-Bell:
http://vsnet.willbell.com/
can be used for CCD reductions (up to five filters) after you have extracted
the photometry from your frames. Gary Emerson of the AAVSO reported on a
preliminary quickbasic program to calculate the transformation coefficients,
but that program does not yet include extinction. Check with him for more
detail (gemerson@worldnet.att.net).
I intend this software list to be as complete as possible, so if you
know of additional sources, let me know.
