[vsnet-chat 939] Re: Vsnet-chat 893 (Berto's list of vars)

With regard to the list of variables posted by Berto, as requiring V sequences,
I should have studied his list closely, before now. Other postings, by Stan
Walker and Bruce Sumner, got me going. A few of the stars have had very good V
sequences for years, and are shown on the appropriate RASNZ charts. Unless I am
missing something, the following stars can be deleted from the list.

Star RASNZ Chart Nos. Usable range of V sequence Source
==================================================================
NN Cen    1107,1109        10 -13.9V       RASNZ Publ. 5 (C77) 1977
V779 Cen  627,628,629      11.5 - 16.0V    MNRAS 172,377 (1975)
V723 Sco  665              7.4 -13.3 V     Astrophys. J. 132,3, 1960

Some of the other variables in the southern milky way may lie near one of the
many published V sequences. I will check this out in the near future.

For Stan Walker and Bruce Sumner.
================================
 V803 Cen. Charts 927,928.
For the record, here is the complete data for the comparison stars, from the
paper by A.Elvius, Astron. Astrophys. 44,117-121 (1975).

Star     V      B-V     U-B
============================
a      13.95    0.75   0.17
b      13.40    0.59  -0.01
c      14.20    0.83   0.42
d      14.14    0.73   0.16

Elvius published a list of photographic observations of V803 Cen, and the
extreme
range found was 11.9 - 17.7V. The 11.9 value occurred only once, the more usual
maxima being around 13.2. It may be useful to have the sequence extended
somewhat
to include brighter and fainter stars..
