While searching previous SNe discovered in this interacting galaxy,
I have noticed a queer thing. The following is the list of relevant
objects in the increasing R.A. order. The SNe data are taken from
Sternberg SNe catalogue, MARK171 position from Veron & Veron.
112831.1 +583328 (2000.0) SN1969 G I694 17W 19S - - - M.Lovas
112831.3 +583338 (2000.0) SN1992bu * N3690 5E 3S - 16.6 K D.VanBuren+
112831.5 +583343 (2000.0) QSO_MARK171 H2 12.86 z=0.010
112832.9 +583336 (2000.0) SN1990 * N3690 - - - - - Z.Huang+
112833.3 +583331 (2000.0) SN1993G * N3690 2W 15S II 16.6 R R.Treffers+
The column following the SN name: '*' represents the coordinates are those
of SN itself, 'G' represents those of the host galaxy.
The good agreement of the positions of MARK 171 and SN1992bu, and its
belonging to NGC 3690 are easily reconciled with. However, SN 1969 (no
official name given?), claimed to belong to IC 694, lies WEST to NGC 3690!
The position of SN 1993G lies pretty east to MARK 171, while its relative
offsets to the nucleus (apparently to NGC 3690) disagrees when adopting
MARK 171 as the origin. There must have been historical confusions.

Taichi Kato
