Dear VSNET chatters,

(I hope the AAVSO ChartCommittee is also reads this chat...)

>I agree that different sequence causes scatter.
>But I don't know whether AAVSO sequence is the best or not?
>I think sequence of each AAVSO charts was made from various sources
(references).

I don't say the AAVSO charts are the best.
But during the last 80 years most observers used AAVSO charts, and it
produced more or less homogeous observations.

My opinions that for for the stars we recenly use AAVSO charts, do not
change the sequence until we can manage that all observers can use same
sequences or mark wthat kind of sequences are used.

For this we need some time. And on the other hand we shall bw aware that in
many countries the observers are not so whealthy as in the US and Japan or
in the UK. (This is why we at the HAA/VSS use sometimes BAA or AAVSO charts
for several variables) Many observers has neither computer nor direct
internet acces.

If we want observers to mark the the sequence used, we need a good data
entry program, andstandardize our databases. This program most be easy to
use (the previuos versions of the KSOLO wanted too many data to type - I
just want to test the new one). It would be enough to mention i the first
report of the star the source of the sequence, etc.

>And even chart of famous star, such as SS Cyg, revised many times during
long time.

It is true. I dont really like that the sequences change several times...

>And zero point of magnitude is somewhat difference between charts.

I also agree with it.

>I think we need to more accurate charts and it is good opportunity to
discuss about new sequences.

Yes, but I think we shall carefully plan when to introduce new sequnce for
stars with already existing sequences.

>I hope AAVSO chart committee and collaborators in other variable star
organization around world make good charts.

I'd very welcome to hear the AAVSO charts committee on this topic.
Ms. Mattei, Mr. Scovil, please reply!

Kind regards,

Robert Fidrich
