The ISN web site (http://vsnet.queen.it/web4you/noprofit/isn/isn.htm) has
some good advice on this problem.  There are also several web sites which
discuss _nova_ hunting.  Maybe this information could be published in the
popular astronomy magazines so that it reaches all astronomers?

It may also be helpful if the same information was available in other
languages.
