Comet hunting is not easy work as you know.
But some - may be not all - Comet hunters try to search a new comet as new comet 
is called comet of discoverers' name.

Nova search is also hard work.
But situation is a little bit difference in nova search as you know.
Nova searchers want to do something to Astronomy even if they are amateur.

Professional astronomers who study nova often say that early alter of nova 
discovery to Astronomy community is necessary.
Not all nova hunters is familiar about recent topics in nova research.
But they want to know.
If Professional astronomers write about why early alter of nova is important to 
nova research and what is topics in recent nova research for popular Astronomy 
magazines, it may be encourage nova hunters.
It is important to talk to amateurs how early alter of nova is important again 
and again if you want to early alter of nova discovery, again and again, I 
think. 

I read good article about V705 Cas (nova Cas 1993) that explain about early 
event during nova explosion in Sky and Telescope magazine, some years ago.

I think we need more such a articles.

I heard that V4334 Sgr (Sukurai's object) that discovered by Japanese amateur is 
one of topics in recent Astronomy.
But unfortunately there are not so many article about this object in popular 
astronomy magazines for amateurs. 

It may be one of reason why many - almost - amateurs don't know how nova search 
is important to Astronomy.
