VERY EXCITING VSOLJ ANNUAL MEETING

I am a member of VSOLJ(Variable Star Observers League in Japan).
We(VSOLJ) had our 7th Annual Meeting on Aug. 23,24 at Dynic Astro-park
in Shiga prefecture.  I would like to report summary of the meeting and
my impression.

It was a very exciting meeting.  36 members were participated in our
meeting.And we were very happy to invite Dr. J. A. Mattei , Dr. J. R.
Percy, Dr.
B. Warner, Dr. R. Mennickent, Dr. M. Takeuchi. And it is the 10th
anniversary of
VSOLJ.

<It was held in a period of the 23rd IAU General Assembly in Kyoto.>
This meeting was planed to be held on the occasion of the 23rd IAU
General
Assembly in Kyoto.  And the place (Shiga pref.) is very near to Kyoto. 
So, we were able to hear invited foreign astronomers speech, and we
encouraged.

<We had 5 oral presentation.>
5 Japanese amateur astronomers presented their study.

Minoru Wakuda,  Photographic Survey of Variable Stars
Osamu Ohshima,  Activities of amateur PEP observers in Japan
Nobuhiro Makiguchi,  2nd Variable Star Festival Report
Osao Shigehisa,  Akio Koyama's Last Observations and Last Word

<Guest speech of invited speakers>
R. Mennickent,  New-millenium chilean astronomy and new results about
Be-CV star.
M.Takeuchi,  What kind of observations is expected for studying
nonlinearity of
             steller pulsation.
B. Warner,  Cataclysmic Variable Stars: The Different Kinds.
C. A.Mattei,  Impact Ground-Based Monitoring of Variable Star Observers.
             (General activities of the AAVSO.  The contribution of
Japanese 
              observers to AAVSO)
J. Percy,  How Amateur Astronomers and Students can Contribute to our
Understanding
             of Pulsating Stars.

<Participation of 3 discoverer of Novas>
Mr. Wakuda, Mr. Sakurai, Mr.Yamamoto were participated in our meeting. 
So, we talked about survey of Novas and variable stars.

<Observation of 97-BLG-56(MACHO project object)>
We observed 97-BLG-56 at Dynic Astro-park using 20x120 binoculars. We
could not see the object, but very excited.

<Party - also exciting>
In Japan, English word is popular now, but speaking in English and
writing in English is not so popular.  We had a party in the evening. 
Each participant introduced himself in Japanese and English.  It was the
first experience for me.

<Quiz>
Staffs provided the quiz session.  They put up several light curves. 
Then we guessed the stars.  Mr. Makiguchi get the first prize.

<Face to face meeting>
We also have some Network, Nifty-serve, VS-net, etc.  But it was a face
to face meeting.  I was very pleased to see the members and guests. 

<Useful discussion>
We discussed about VSOLJ and the future.
1.  Sharing of database
2.  Standardization of luminosity (How to use Hipparcos /Tycho
catalogue)
3.  Organization of VSOLJ

As described above, it was a very exciting meeting.

At the end, we would like to thank Dr. J. A. Mattei , Dr. J. R. Percy,
Dr. B. Warner, Dr. R. Mennickent, Dr. M. Takeuchi for their
participation and guest speech.  We were very pleased and encouraged. 
We also thank Mr. Sakabe (President of Dynic co. ltd.) and Mr.
S.Takahashi, Mr. Ida (VSOLJ annual meeting staffs).
