[vsnet-chat 521] Re:Accurate positions for variables

In vsnet-chat 510 Brian Skiff posed the question as to progress in measuring
accurate positions for all variables.
In the 1980's Yale Southern Observatory commenced a program for identifying
southern variables (using the published finder charts) and measuring positions
on the Yale plates, under the direction of Carlos E. Lopez. This has been a
well organized and systematic program, commencing with far southern fields.
A description of the program appears in Journal of AAVSO, 18,2,139 (1989).

RESULTS: Published lists of Yale positions can be found as follows:
PASP, vol 102, no. 655, p 1018 (1990) - 950 confirmed, 368 suspected vars.
IBVS 3681
IBVS 3682
IBVS 3873
IBVS 3907
IBVS 3908
IBVS 3909
IBVS 3944
IBVS 3993
IBVS 4006
IBVS 4321 - variable stars near the South Galactic Pole.
IBVS 4322 - suspected variables near the SGP.

The last two IBVS lists were published in April 1996, but I don't know
whether the program is still active. I hope it is still alive.

I would like to know, are these results being integrated into the GCVS?
The latest (73rd) Namelist contains accurate positions, and seems to
indicate that this is now the policy for NEW variables. What about the
the old ones?

Regards,

Mati Morel
