Hi chatters,
re: Hipparchos / Tycho data
I had a look at a couple of star fields measured by Hipparchos and
Tycho and I am pleased to say that (so far) most data are
compatible with the visual estimates which I made some time ago.
The TYC magnitudes differ from my 'self established' values
between 0.0 to 0.3 and such differences apply to whole starfields
(around specific variables) and for the magnitude range 8 to 12.
GSC magnitudes were often 'out' by more than 1 magnitude.
I await further scrutiny by the VSOing community before recalling
/ correcting 'old' observation results. Just to remove any
ambiguity, the discussed starfields are those with no 'official'
sequences. Hipparchos and Tycho results could go a long way to
fill those sequence gaps, especially of Southern variables.
Best regards,
Berto Monard,
Pretoria

G'day all,
With the recent release of the Hipparchos catalogue, how will the
worldwide
variable star community cope with the data?
Will the data replace existing variable star charts?
How will the new variable star discoveries be incorporated into
existing
catalogues?
