[vsnet-chat 361] Re: [vsnet-alert 946] rare outburst of MM Sco

Dear Bruce Sumner and chatters,

Sorry for my ignorance of the activities of the VSS RASNZ and their
continued surveillance of these interesting variables stars. This ignorance
was mainly due to the limited coverage of my knowledge which largely depends
on our library -- information on the VSS RASNZ is very limited here.
(The ADS Abstract Service tells we have to date back to 1984 to find
the VSS RASNZ articles of these objects. Though I remember I have seen
some recent volumes of Publ. VSS RASNZ at National Astronomical Observatory
of Japan, I am not sure they covered as old as to 1984. But, I suspect
these articles only treat the earliest part of the 20-year's surveillance?)

Still, I believe my suggestions of closer monitoring on these stars
make sence, since we know many northern examples, which had been under
constant surveillance many years, became drastically well understood
and followed after their nature was revealed. Knowledge often makes the
way of surveillance different (probably by introducing more selection
than before), and early notifications of events knowing such nature
quite often lead to far better understanding, and appreciation by observers
themselves, of the events.

Regards,
Taichi Kato
