I'm trying to track down the observer - someone with the code Nw - who seems
to have made a special attempt to follow Mira that year. I note that Albert
Jones observed on March 19 and May 22 which are more normal dates.

Albert was probably in Timaru then which is about 45+ south (no map here)
but NZ goes down to near 48S. The times of Nw suggest that the observations
were made from Australia. They appear realistic and were made at or near a
shallowish (9.3) minimum. The sequence would differ from the present one
being, at best, SPv.

I'm at the wrong end of NZ (34S) to make close to the Sun measures of Mira
but it seems that Hale-Bopp had a nice brightening last night. And for the
CV observers V803 Cen still continues its daily outbursts - with a period of
~21hours at present!
