Most interesting details and background to Shinkfield's Mira observation!
It seems to be the first after conjuction globally - unless further database
searches tell us different...
In regard to the last observation before conjuction; C J Westland is stated
in BAA Memoir Vol. XXII to have been based in New Zealand. However, Stan
Walker's anonymous 1949 series seem to beat him by 11 days giving April 26th.
Further; in 1997 conjunction in RA occurs on April 27th, but in celestial
longitude it is on April 21-22 - maybe as Bjoern Granslo calculates, Mira
*could* be observed right through given good conditions at the right
time and place.

Yes, now there is only a week!
Regards to all,
Dave
