The output from Japan is not that huge, at least not so overwhelming
as the recent supernova discovery rate. One reason why we set up a new
publication form was that (at least what I was taught) IBVS concentrates
on photoelectric and photographic photometry, and probably not visual one.
This did not quite fit the standard of usual equipment of amateurs of that
time. Visual photometry, though not always enough accurate for every
purpose, is still very efficient in determining periods of new Mira-type
variables etc.
