Berto Monard has kindly provided a copy of RASNZ chart of V3941 Sgr.
After some e-mail exchanges, we have reached a conclusion below.
Sketch from May 18 CCD image:

The star 'A' corresponds to the object identified on the RASNZ chart.
This star appears on both of I-band CCD images, with no appreciable variation
between them. Monard-san has noted this star to be red by comparison with
the DSS.
The star 'B' is what I found to be variable (and mentioned here), which
is clearly different from the star 'A' (original V3941 Sgr?).
