[vsnet-chat 22] Purkinje effect

Brian Skiff and Berto Monard have perfectly explained the phenomenon. But,
when fully adapted to night vision, red stars still appear to get brighter
IF observed for a too long time. Thay is why, as was described in Levy's
book "Observing Variable Stars" (p.40), it is better to perform quick
glances when a bright red star is use.
