[vsnet-chat 7] V Sgr - new cataclysmic?

Readers,
I am looking for more information on the following star:
V Sgr = HIC 90799 = HD 170656 = LS 5077 = BD-18 4987.

Was the fifth named variable in Sgr, so it first attracted
attention 100 years ago,or so. Third and fourth editions of GCVS
list it as constant, visual mag. =8.1. The modern V mag. given
in the HIC is 7.667. MK Spectral type is a bit contradictory,
one authority gives F2 II, other sources (Houk and HIC) give
F0 V.
Now some information recently sent to me by a colleague in
the US describes LS 5077 as a "cataclysmic binary, range
V = 9.5 -13.6". Scientific papers have appeared on this star
as follows:
Herbig, et al ApJ, 141, 617, 1965 - spectroscopic analysis.
Simon, Astron. Astrophys. 309,775-776, 1996 - possible period
changes based on observations over 31 years.

If anyone has access to Simon's paper, could they give a brief
indication in this list as to whether this star is worthy of
visual observation, and also explain the visual range above
(rather different to the GCVS value).

Thanks in advance,
Mati Morel
