[vsnet-campaign 1114] VSNET Weekly Campaign Summary




VSNET Weekly Campaign Summary

(new targets)
  Nova Cyg 2002 No. 2	(RA = 21h03m02s.00, Dec = +48d45'52".9)

    A. Tago discovered a new nova in Cygnus on August 18.  K. Ayani 
  performed spectroscopy and confirmed its nova nature in an early 
  phase.  The magnitude was 8.8mag when it was discovered and 
  then, the object brightened to 6.6mag (vsnet-campaign-nova 431).
  P. Schmeer reported that there is r=18.8mag USNO star within 
  1" of the position of the nova (vsnet-campaign-nova 432).
  It is currently in 6-7th mag (vsnet-campaign-nova 434, 436, 439).
  A. Takao reported it was still faint on August 17
  (vsnet-campaign-nova 437, 438).


  V893 Sco		(RA = 16h14m45s.26, Dec = -28d39'30".3)

    According to B. Monard, the eclipsing dwarf nova V893 Sco
  experienced an outburst on August 14 at 12.6mag (vsnet-campaign-dn 
  1242, 1244).  It seems to be a normal outburst (vsnet-campaign-dn
  1273). 


  SN 2001dp		(RA = 11h53m45s.22, Dec = +52d20'56".8)

    The members of the CROSS program have discovered the quite 
  bright SN (mag 14.5) on August 12.  Y. Sano confirmed this SN 
  (vsnet-campaign-sn 215).  K. Ayani performed spectroscopy and 
  reported it resembles the spectrum of tyle Ia one month after the 
  peak (vsnet-campaign-sn 216).  The position is about 35" west and 
  80" north of the nucleus of the barred-spiral (SB(r)bc) galaxy 
  NGC 3953.  NGC 3953 is nearby galaxy, the expected maximum of the 
  typical SN Ia is mag 12.5 (vsnet-campaign-sn 219, 220, 221, 222).


  TK5			(RA = 19h17m26s.5, Dec = +37d10'41")

    As reported by M. Reszelski, the object experienced an outburst
  at 14.8mag on August 16 (vsnet-campaign-dn 1253).


  SN 2001dn		(RA = 01h44m35s.32, Dec = +37d41'49".7)

    SN 2001dn was discovered by T. Boles on August 14 at 15.5mag.  
  The position is 4" west and 3" north from the nucleus of NGC 662. 
  The expected maximum of the typical SN Ia is around mag 15.7 
  (vsnet-campaign-sn 217).


  SN 2001do		(RA = 19h37m23s.02, Dec = +40d42'24".3)

    SN 2001do was discovered by the KAIT team on August 14 at  
  16.2mag.  A previous KAIT image taken on Aug 10.2 did not show this 
  object, so it would be fresh object.  The position is about 5" east 
  and 4" north of the nucleus of the open spiral (Sd) galaxy UGC
  11459.  The recession velocity of UGC 11459 is about 3100 km/s, 
  so the expected maximum of typical SN Ia is around mag 15.5 after
  the correction of the Galactic extinction (vsnet-campaign-sn 218).

  WZ Sge		(RA = 20h07m36s.53, Dec = +17d42'15".3)

    The historical event is still ongoing and the international 
  campaign of observations is also active (vsnet-campaign-dn 1195, 
  1197, 1199, 1208, 1211, 1214, 1215, 1216, 1220, 1227, 1228, 1231, 
  1234, 1235, 1245, 1246, 1247, 1248, 1254, 1257, 1259, 1262, 1264,  
  1274, 1275, 1278, 1280, 1282, 1283, 1285, 1287, 1288, 1289, 1290, 
  1293, 1296, 1298, 1299, 1301, 1304).

    On August 12, the fading was relatively rapid (vsnet-campaign-dn 
  1198, 1204).  Eclipses seem to locate at the top of superhumps and 
  looks very shallow (vsnet-campagn-dn 1207, 1210, 1213).  Some 
  flickerings were observed after the peak of superhumps 
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 1200).  The amplitude of superhumps was about 
  0.15mag (vsnet-campaign-dn 1203).
    On August 13, superhump profiles became somewhat complicate and 
  a secondary maximum can be seen (vsnet-campaign-dn 1217).  The 
  flickerings or QPOs were still seen on the declining branch 
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 1222).  Eclipses located just on the ascending 
  branch of superhumps and became more evident (vsnet-campaign-dn 1223).  
    On August 14, the eclipses became deeper and more evident 
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 1229, 1232).  The hump maxima was not clear 
  and showed complicate feature including two maxima, so called 
  "M"-shaped profile (vsnet-campaign-dn 1233, 1240, 1251).  The fading 
  was almost stopped (vsnet-campaign-dn 1241).
    On August 15, the first peak was observed to move closer to the 
  second one (vsnet-campaign-dn 1249), and then, made a main peak.  A 
  dip around the orbital phase 0.6 was observed (vsnet-campaign-dn
  1250).  Eclipses became deeper and sharper.  There were some small 
  peaks as well as the main peak (vsnet-campaign-dn 1252, 1261). 
    On August 16, sharp eclipses were again emerging
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 1270, 1269, vsnet-campaign 1100).  The decline 
  speed became faster again (vsnet-campaign 1099, 1101).
    On August 17, the object entered a rapid decline phase. During 
  this phase the humps once became small (vsnet-campaign 1103, 1104, 
  1105) and faded with a rate of about 1 mag/d (vsnet-campaign-dn 1276, 
  1277).  Eclipses and short time-scale modulations were observed. 
  In the late phase, new humps were evolving at the orbital 
  phase of 0.35-0.4 (vsnet-campaign 1106, 1107) and the decline  
  speed became slower (vsnet-campaign-dn 1281).
    On August 18, another large humps were evolved and the fading 
  trend almost stopped (vsnet-campaign 1110).  The phase is 
  different from that of August 17, so they are of diffenrent nature. 
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 1286, vsnet-campaign 1108).  The amplitude 
  of humps became about 0.35mag and the period is that of superhumps 
  (vsnet-campaign 1109, 1111).  Eclipses were also observed 
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 1294).
    On August 19, the object started re-brightening (vsnet-campaign
  1112).  The depth of eclipses became deep (0.15mag) 
  (vsnet-campaign 1113).  The amplitude of humps was still large 
  (0.45mag) (vsnet-campaign-dn 1302, 1303).

    T.Kato has re-examined the original data during the last 1978  
  superoutburst and reported the superhump period of 0.05722d, 1% 
  longer than orbital one (vsnet-campaign-dn 1224).  The excess 
  is the same as in the case of AL Com (vsnet-campaign-dn 1225).
  T. Marsh commented that it is also important to observe even after
  the outburst terminated because an elliptical disk may remain
  (vsnet-campaign 1097, 1098).  D. West's time-series data on August
  15/16 is available at [vsnet-campaign-dn 1266].  S. Kiyota's 
  time-series data on August 16 and 17 is available at [vsnet-campaign-dn
  1272] and [vsnet-campaign-data 74], respectively 
  (ref. vsnet-campaign-dn 1271).  M. Moriyama's time-series 
  data on August 17 is available at [vsnet-campaign-data 73].

    Period analysis of superhumps were performed by some observers 
  and they reported the preliminary results: 0.05774d (G. Masi;
  Aug. 13; vsnet-campaign-dn 1201, 1202), 0.057198(10)d (T. Kato; 
  Aug. 13; vsnet-campaign-dn 1206), 0.05728d (G. Masi; Aug. 14; 
  vsnet-campaign-dn 1217), 0.057191(8)d (T. Kato; Aug. 14; 
  vsnet-campaign-dn 1222), 0.0571907(73)d (T. Kato; Aug. 15; 
  vsnet-campaign-dn 1233), 0.05704(15)d (M. Uemura; Aug. 19;
  vsnet-campaign 1111).


  OY Car		(RA = 10h06m22s.46, Dec = -70d14'04".4)

    The superoutburst is still ongoing (vsnet-campaign-dn 1219).


  RZ Sge		(RA = 20h03m18s.49, Dec = +17d02'52".6)

    The outburst was suggested to be a possible superoutburst 
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 1209).  P. Schmeer commented it seems to be a 
  normal outburst (vsnet-campaign-dn 1218).  M. Simonsen reported his
  observations and confirmed it was a normal one (vsnet-campaign-dn 1226).


  V1008 Her		(RA = 18h05m46s.31, Dec = +31d40'18".1)

    The outburst is still ongoing (vsnet-campaign-dn 1230, 1255, 1292).


  IX Dra                (RA = 18h12m32s.2, Dec = +67d04'41")

    An outburst (16.5mag) was reported by M. Reszelski on August 15 
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 1256).


  V803 Cen		(RA = 13h23m44.5s, Dec = -41d44'30".1)

    An outburst was reported on August 12 by B. Monard at 13.7mag
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 1221).  Another outburst was reported on 
  August 17 by S. Kerr at 13.0mag (vsnet-campaign-dn 1300).


  V818 Sco		(RA = 16h19m55s.07, Dec = -15d38'24".5)
  
    As reported by B. Monard on August 14 (11.9mag), the object 
  is now showing strong activity (vsnet-campaign-xray 80).

  
  V503 Cyg		(RA = 20h27m15s.61, Dec = +43d41'45".5)

    The superoutburst is still ongoing (vsnet-campaign-dn 1258, 1291).


  V445 Pup		(RA = 07h37m56s.88, Dec = -25d56'59".1)

    B. Monard reported the object was fainter than 14.6mag on August
  18.  The object is now fainter than the prenova magnitude 
  (vsnet-campaign-nova 435).
