Looking at the finder chart in Downes and Shara, it appears it was in
outburst then also, though not as bright as it is right now. I do
remember thinking it was faint compared to the picture when I looked
at my own images from June 27, 1999 and all of the images from May 2000
on (until now). Maybe it really is a VY Scl. My last observations
before the current ones were on July 16 and it about 3 magnitudes or
more fainter then. I don't have absolute photometry. I'm only comparing
to its much brighter companion, and I haven't reduced tonight's data yet.
