Re: [vsnet-campaign 24] XTE J1118+480 ASCA-VSNET campaign Dear Dr. Sostero, > Instrument nr.2: 0.45m, f/22 Cassegrain + B filter + 1P21 > phot.photometer; expected resolution time: 10 sec Since the existence of ~10 sec QPOs has been established (also visible in X-rays, see also astro-ph/0005212), it would be better to choose a higher sampling frequency (better than 5 sec resolution = Nyquist limit) for photon-counting photometers. If conditions allow (data recording), sampling at 1 sec resolution would drastically improve our knowledge in this object. We can then expect a detectable time delay of modulations versus X-rays, which is usually too difficult to search for most X-ray transients. Regards, Taichi Kato
