Subject: V4641 Sgr remains quiet at radio wavelengths

Dear colleagues,

  as it happens, we had a look at V4641 Sgr with the Very Large Array (VLA)
on 31jul03 at 4.86 GHz (6cm), finding no detection with an rms noise level
of 0.10 mJy/beam; the nominal flux density at the position of the source was
0.057 mJy/beam. Sporadic observations over the past several months have
given non-detections at similar levels, but mostly at 8.46 GHz. Given
Stubbings' suggestion that the source may have brightened optically,
we'll be having another look, but probably not until the 5th, unless other
evidence of activity emerges. Previous active states have produced radio
flux densities ranging from a few tenths to a few tens of mJy.

  Clear skies,

       Michael Rupen
         Vivek Dhawan
           Amy Mioduszewski
       NRAO/Socorro

p.s.  mJy -> millijansky --> 10^{-26} erg/s/cm^2/Hz
