(fwd) IGR J17597-2201 observations Message from Berto Monard: From: "B Monard" <bmonard@mweb.co.za> Date: Sun, 4 May 2003 11:50:23 +0200 Subject: [vsnet-alert 7726] IGR J17597-2201 observations Hi, unfiltered CCD observations were done at the Bronberg Observatory on 03 May 2003; 00.00 UT in search of an optical counterpart for IGR J17597-2201 around the position published in ATEL #155. A deep field (DF) image with limiting magnitude exceeding 20.0CR was obtained by co-adding 10 images. All new and some strongly brightened objects visible on the DF image in comparison to DSS2-red were checked against 2Mass data. They all turned out to be strong IR emitters. Therefore no obvious candidate for the optical counterpart can be suggested up to a limiting magnitude of 19.5CR. In view of the nature of the object (ATEL #156) a negative detection was to be expected. This can be cited and/or forwarded to ATEL.
