In search of the optical counterpart

The presently reported active X Ray emitting source SLX 1746-331
(ATEL#143, Markwardt) was observed with the unfiltered CCD camera at the
Bronberg Observatory in South Africa on 12 April 2003 at UT 02 30.

Inspection of a stacked image in comparison to a DDS2-red image, showed
no new object inside an area of 1 arcmin around the reported position to
a magnitude of 17.5CR.  

The actual limiting magnitude of this image is around 18.5CR, but the
dense MW field does not allow to ascertain inspection fainter than
17.5CR.

There are two objects in the inspected area that show obvious
brightening as compared to the DSS image. Possibly they are bright IR
sources. Inspection vs 2Mass data will be done later today.
