Hello,
Sco X-1 is known to be flaring on timecales of hours. Such flares can be
huge, especially in X-rays. The latest ASM light curve of Sco X-1 is
at http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/xte_weather/xte_lc?source=SCOX1.
RXTE mission day 2749 corresponds to july 12 2001. A huge X-ray flare
around the time of the optical observation can be seen. It is known that
X-rays and optical correlate well during such flares.
Cheers,
Erik
