Dear SN watchers, IAUC 7851 informed the spectral types of several recent SNe. SN 2002bn: In [vsnet-obs 38871]: ># UGC 6527, the referred host of SN 2002bn, is a name for the compact ># group of galaxies constructed by three members. This group is a ># part of Arp 322 = HCG (Hickson) 56, which include 5 or more ># galaxies. The apparent host is UGC 6527 NED03 = HCG 56B, a edge-on ># SB0 galaxy. The expected maximum for typical SN Ia is mag about ># 16.8, which is not too far from the observed value. This SN turned out to be a type Ia, four weeks after maximum on Mar. 9.28 (CfA group). SN 2002bo: In [vsnet-campaign-sn 376]: > Other than Gunma observation, the Asiago group and the CfA group >reported the spectrum with the same conclusion. The CfA group notes >about the narrow Na I D absorption (EW = 0.3 nm) at the velocity of >the host galaxy, which indicates the large reddening. They also quote >about the Ti absorption features, which suggest that it may be a >subluminous SN Ia. The followup photometry is quite encouraged, >because it would greatly help the research for the SNe Ia of >subluminous class. The UCB group also observed this SN, but report a lack of Ti features. They comments on the strong Si II 585 nm feature, which is also typical for subluminous SN Ia. Sincerely Yours, Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan yamaoka@rc.kyushu-u.ac.jp
