HR Car is a tricky star to estimate. I have observed it for a number of
years and stopped doing so a year ago. 

HR Car is in an active state since more than two years and its
brightness perception is very focus dependent (probably due to emission
lines present).

I do not doubt observations of an experienced observer though...
