[vsnet-campaign-nova 262] Nova V382 Vel 1999 - detection of a photometric period
Dear southern vsneters,
Continuous CCD photometry carried out by Marc Bos (Mt Molehill
Observatory, New Zealand; 0.3-m telescope) and Jennie McCormick and
Fred Velthuis (Farm Cove Observatory, New Zealand; 0.25-m telescope)
during 4 nights in 2001 February-March using a `clear' filter reveals
that the light curve of V382 Vel (Nova Vel 1999) has a periodic
modulation with a full amplitude of ~0.05 mag. The period is most
likely ~3.5 h, however, we cannot rule out the aliases at ~4.1 h and
~4.9 h. More observations are encouraged to confirm the presence of
the periodicity and to solve the aliasing problem. In case the period
is 3.5 h, it might be a superhump period, thus more periods may be
found by further photometry.
Regards,
Alon
