[vsnet-campaign-news 28] News from VSNET 28
*** News from VSNET ***
The lack of the eclipse on Nov. 12 indicates the ~45 day period
of Delta Vel rather than the other period. SN 2000dx became ~2 mag
brighter than expected.
For more detail information about these objects,
see below, "VSNET Weekly Campaign Summary" of the last week.

VSNET (Variable Star Network) is an international variable star observing
network, covering various areas of novae, supernovae, cataclysmic variables
(CVs), X-ray transients, and other classical eruptive, pulsating, and
eclipsing variables. VSNET is one of invited contributing organizations
to the SkyPub AstroAlert system.
The "News from VSNET", mainly focusing on recent remarkable activities of
CVs and related systems, is issued on a weekly basis, except on occasions
of extremely urgent or transient events.
Please refer to the VSNET Home Page for more details of events and
objects listed.

VSNET provides a number of mailing lists, on which various news and topics
are discussed. Subscriptions to the VSNET mailing lists are free of charge;
please refer to the instruction on the above page if a reader needs more
information of the list structure.
CCD observations of such targets are a relatively easy task for a 20-40cm
telescope; simply take as many CCD frames (with exposure times 10-30 sec)
as possible, spanning several hours per night. The only requirements are
the weather and your patience! If you need more help on the observing
technique, please feel free to ask on the vsnet-campaign list.
We would sincerely appreciate volunteers who would join the VSNET
Collaboration team to study the wonders of these exotic variable stars.

at the same time).

VSNET Weekly Campaign Summary
*** Last week news ***
(new targets)
SN 2000ek (RA = 02h10m30s.04, Dec = -53d49'28".0)
This new supernova appeared in the host galaxy ESO 153-G27.
The magnitude on November 7 and 8 is 17.0.
The location is about 22" west and 44" north of the center of the host.
H. Yamaoka reported the expected maximum of typical SN Ia is mag about 16
(vsnet-campaign-sn 107).
(continuous targets)
SN 2000dx (RA = 02h18m26s.88, Dec = +05d39'02".0)
H. Yamaoka forwarded the observation report by M. Frederick which
shows the magnitude of 15.26 on November 8. This value is nearly 2 mag
brighter than the expected in [vsnet-alert 5357] and [vsnet-campaign-sn 105]
(vsnet-campaign-sn 107).
V1028 Cyg (RA = 20h00m52.13s, Dec = +56d56'22.3")
Kyoto team reported on November 9 that V1028 Cyg had faded to R=15.5. This
indicates a decline rate of November 6-9 is about 0.4mag/d and the duration
is rather shorter than typical superoutbursts (vsnet-campaign-dn 240).
Delta Vel (RA = 08h44m42s.1, Dec = -54d42'30")
B. Fraser reported observations corrected using appropriate magnitudes
of comparison stars and show no significant variability out of eclipse on
November 4, 5, and 6 (vsnet-campaign-deltavel 19). S. Otero showed a
new eclipse ephemeris with a period of 45.15100 days (see also
[vsnet-campaign-deltavel 23]. He commented that observations on November
12/13 are important to rule out another period of 27.10 day definitively
(vsnet-campaign-deltavel 22). On November 12, S. Otero reported no eclipse
was observed at that time and the 45.150 day period is now almost real
(vsnet-campaign-deltavel 24).
BL Lac (RA = 22h02m42.86s, Dec = +42d16'37.6")
The object is slightly fainter as reported by D. Rodriguez, V=14.35 on
November 9 (vsnet-campaign-blazar 90).
PKS 2005-489 (RA = 20h05m47.4s, -48d58'45".0)
The object is still active (vsnet-campaign-blazar 91).
