[vsnet-be 61] Delta Sco: Provisional Spectroscopic Period and Orbit

   An analysis of 56 published radial velocities of Delta Sco that
cover the interval 1903-1975, has yielded the following provisional
spectroscopic period and orbital elements. The results from this
study are being provided prior to the complete analysis because of
the importance of the period to photometric observers.

   Observations from the Yerkes, Allegheny, Dominion (Ottawa),
McDonald, and KPNO/CTIO Observatories were used. (The errors quoted
are standard errors.) An ephemeris of predicted times of putative
eclipses is also provided; a comparison to recent photometry was not
done.

        P  = 78.860 +/- 0.0017 days
        T  = JD 2442776.075 +/- 0.17
        e  = 0.10 +/ -.17
        w  = 254.9 +/- 95.04
        V0 = -12.2 +/- 1.5 km/sec
        K  = 10.3 +/- 2.4 km/sec

        T Min. I  = JD 2427769.523 + 78.860*E
        T Min. II = JD 2427728.773 + 78.860*E

   Some of these data occur near the predicted periastron passage in
the interferometric orbit (P=10.583). Analysis of the radial
velocity data, especially with regard to that orbit.

Cordially,
Thom Gandet
