Norwegian Astronomical Society - Variable Star Section ***** OBSERVATIONS OF DELTA SCORPII ***** The following visual observations have been made by undersigned, during my vacation on Lanzarote: Object YYYYMMDD(UT) Mag Obs Inst Estimates Cl SCOdelta 20000728.94 19 GRL NE B-3;C=V;E+4 1 SCOdelta 20000730.91 19 GRL NE C=V;D+2 2 SCOdelta 20000803.91 18 GRL NE B-2;C=V;D+2 2 SCOdelta 20000805.87 18 GRL NE A-8;C=V:D+2 1 SCOdelta 20000807.88 19 GRL NE C-1;D+1 2 SCOdelta 20000809.89 19 GRL NE C-1;D+1 1 Observations are Pogson step estimates. Class (Cl) is the estimated quality of observation: 1 = good, 2 = fair, 3 = poor. The class 2 observations were affected by haze. Comparison stars (V magnitudes from Yale Bright Star Catalogue, 5th edition): A = 0.98 (Alpha Vir); B = 1.63 (Lambda Sco); C = 1.85 (Epsilon Sgr); D = 2.02 (Sigma Sgr); E = 2.43 (Eta Oph). These observations confirm the brightening of this object, first reported by S. Otero [vsnet 2034]. It is currently a Be star and appears to be a new bright variable of the Gamma Cas type. Observer: GRL = B. H. Granslo, Lanzarote (29 deg N, 14 deg W). Instrument: naked eye. Yours sincerely, Bjorn H. Granslo (NAS.VSS)
