The following is a report on my photometry and astrometry of the new nova Sgr 2002-02. The equipment used was a 0.2m SCT + ST-9E CCD + BVRc filters.
The position of the nova was measured to be 18 02 21.83 -25 20 32.2 +/- 0.5" (J2000). This is using 14 GSC 1.1 stars in the plate solution.

The following are photometric observations with UT time:
2002-09-17 2:17 B=9.58 +/- 0.1
2002-09-17 2:48 V=7.96 +/- 0.05
2002-09-17 2:26 Rc=7.09 +/- 0.15
The error term represents the standard deviation of the mean of the magnitude estimate. The comparison stars used were:
GSC 6846:1080 B=11.21, V=10.45, Rc=10.04
SAO 186183 B=9.91, V=8.79, Rc=8.17
The B and V magnitudes are from Tycho 1 and the Rc is calculated from the B-V color using the relationship: (V-R) = 0.059(B-V)^2 + 0.463(B-V) + 0.024. The V band measurement was taken during clear skies. The B and Rc measurements were taken during variable cloudiness. The large standard deviations of the means are a result of the variable cloudiness. The B and Rc measurements are an average of seven measurements for each filter. The measurements have not been color corrected (this fact is already included in the error estimates).
The large B-V indicates the nova is highly redened.
