V589 Her: short brightness dip? eclipse? Dear Colleagues, The Kyoto team (observers: M. Uemura and R. Ishioka) obtained a 1.4-hour run on Apr. 5 (and a shorter run on Apr. 4). Both observations confirmed the reported outburst. Superimposed on smooth 0.1-0.15 mag variation, there was a short 0.3 mag apparent fading. The profile of the fading resemble that of an eclipse. Owing to the short visibility in the morning sky, we have not been able to confirm whether the feature recurs. If this is a true eclipse, the short duration suggests a short orbital period, possibly SU UMa-type category (in this case, superhumps, if any, may have been hard to detect depending on the beat phase). Otherwise, the phenomenon may be related to some sort of other "dips" sometimes seen in various CVs. Further follow-up observations are very urgently requested. Please remind to also send observations to Uemura-san and Ishioka-san (uemura@kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp, ishioka@kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp) for prompt analysis. Regards, Taichi Kato VSNET Collaboration team
