Subject: Deep Lens Survey - Variable objects
Hi
The members of the Deep Lens Survey (http://dls.bell-labs.com) would
like to report the following relatively bright transient observed the past 2
nights on the CTIO 4m telescope. Note we have dozens of candidate SN or
other unknown objects - however this one is at least a magnitude brighter
than most, making it a good candidate for follow-up by the VSNET.
We have found an unknown, hostless, point-source transient located at
10:49:32.82 -4:31:45.4 (J2000). This object was not present in 5x600sec
V-Band and 5x600sec B-band images taken 2001-03-27 UT 01h and 2001-03-27 UT 00h,
respectively, to limiting magnitudes of approximately 25.5. It is
present in a 5x600sec V-band series taken 2002-01-11 UT 07h at V=22.0
and in a 5x600sec B-band series taken 2002-01-12 UT 05h at B=22.4.
Additional information can be found at the following web page, under
the designation trans139.
