Subject: New IAUC about XTE J1650-500

Dear colleagues,

Please find enclosed our proposal for an IAU Circular about XTE
J1650-500 that could be interesting to you. Also it (with pictures)
could be found in hea.iki.rssi.ru/~mikej/xtej1650.html
The cross investigations of QPOs in various energy bands proved to be
interesting subject, as it could be seen in the case of XTE J1118+480.

Best regards.

----------
M.Revnivtsev and R.Sunyaev, Max-Planck-Institut fuer Astrophysik and
Russian Space Research Institute, report: "The analysis of the
public-domain data of RXTE target-of-opportunity observation of X-ray
transient XTE J1650-500 (IAUC 7707,7708, 7710) performed in Sep.9.1 and
Sep.10.5, 2001 revealed the presence of two QPO peaks (likely
harmonics).
The centroid peak frequencies changed from 1.13+/-0.02 Hz and
2.28+/-0.02
Hz on Sep.9.1, 2001 to 1.33+/-0.02 and 2.73+/-0.03 Hz on Sep.10.5, 2001.

The amplitudes of QPOs are about 5-7%. The preliminary spectral analysis

of PCA(3-20 keV) and HEXTE (20-200 keV) data shows that the source has
a spectrum similar to that of Cyg X-1 and other black hole binaries in
the low/hard spectral state. The spectrum has power law like shape with
photon index around 1.5-1.8 and exponential cutoff with e-folding value
E_f~90 keV. The fluorescent Ka Fe line is visible in the spectrum.
The investigation of reported QPOs in optical band could provide
important
additional information about properties of the accretion disk and the
binary.
