Dear SN watchers, R. Chassagne has discovered his 10th SN (the 9th was SN 2001cz), which is in the quite neighbouring galaxy. Congratulations, Robin! IAUC 7670 informed that the discovery was made on July 22.88 and confirmed on July 24.85. The brightness of the new object was 15.5 (unfiltered CCD) at the discovery, and probably at the confirmation. The position is R.A. = 20h17m24s.16, Decl. = -38o40'37".4 (2000.0), which is about 39" east and 11" south of the nucleus of the edge-on and warped dim galaxy (type Sdm on NED, or Sc/Ir on SIMBAD) MCG -6-44-26. It was not detected on June 26.1. The host galaxy has a relatively dim central region and elongates towards east. The SN is somewhat (5-6") south of this elongated arm. The recession velocity of MCG -6-44-26 is around 2600 km/s, which suggest that the typical SN Ia on this galaxy can reach mag 14. The follow-up photometry and spectroscopic type determination is needed for this southern SN. Sincerely Yours, Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan yamaoka@rc.kyushu-u.ac.jp
